What does it feel like to glide across a mirror-like lake? To hear the paddle break the water’s surface and have nature all around you? The Swedish National Maritime Museum’s new exhibition Paddle! (Paddla!) opens on 22 May 2026.

In Paddle!, you can follow the story of paddling – from historical long-distance journeys to today’s outdoor life – and discover why people are continually drawn to the water.
The exhibition engages the whole body. Explore different paddling environments, from forest lakes to the open sea, and experience how paddling can offer both adventure and tranquillity. Try packing a kayak, test your balance, or crawl into a tent where the sounds of nature surround you.
You will encounter stories of people who have paddled for freedom, community, and challenge, then and now. You’ll also find inspiration and practical tips for getting out on the water yourself.
Paddle! is an exhibition for everyone – whether you are a beginner or an experienced paddler. Perhaps your next adventure begins here?
Paddle! is produced by the Swedish National Maritime Museum and has been made possible through collaborations with companies, associations, photographers and paddlers, as well as generous support from The Museum’s Friends Association (Sjöhistoriskas Vänner).
